Finally... Time to start heading back to Ushuaia
Once again, a bad storm was heading to the Drake Passage. To miss the storm, Captain Maggie decided to go directly north rather than northwest. Once we were even with the Beagle Channel she turned west. This took a little longer but we had smooth sailing the entire way.
We arrived at Ushuaia Harbor during the afternoon on January 7, 2023. We had to wait a few hours before our berth at the dock was available. My luggage was in Ushuaia and was finally delivered to the ship about 9:00 pm. We were supposed to have our luggage put outside our cabin doors by 10:00 pm so they could be gathered and organized for the various departures in the morning. It took a little longer than that for me to get my stuff organized because of the clothing I was able to purchase before we sailed. Our luggage made it out by 10:30 pm and was picked up by Viking staff.
On the morning of January 8th, we had an early wake-up alarm so that we would have time for breakfast before meeting our Patagonia Expedition group for our flight to El Calafate, Argentina. We met up with our luggage at the airport and gave it to the agent at the counter. We kept our fingers crossed that our luggage would meet us at the next airport.
Goodbye Antarctica and on to our Patagonia Extension!
