Gateway to Patagonia
01/08/2023 - 01/13/2023

Since the chance of getting to southern South America again is unlikely, I decided that we should add the Patagonia Extension to our trip. Both Chile and Argentina make up Patagonia, with the border running through the Andes.  Argentina’s side is significantly larger than Chile’s and features arid steppes, grasslands and deserts, while the Chilean side has glacial fjords and temperate rainforest. Patagonia occupies anywhere between 260,000 and 400,00 square miles depending upon the source and its population is approximately 1-2 persons per square kilometer, making it one of the most sparsely populated regions in the world.

The 6 day extension was a bus tour with a dedicated Viking tour guide.
